The 13th Film Olympiad Has Come to a Triumphant Close!
This past weekend, the Cine Paradeisos in Korydallos, Athens, became the beating heart of world cinema. Our Live Screening event wasn’t just memorable for the fully packed theatre — it was the sight of dozens of people standing for hours, unwilling to miss a single frame of the passion and artistry on display.
Dovecote (Italy) – Marco Perego
Zoe Saldana, became the first ever actress to have won an Oscar and a Film Olympiad Grand Prix Medal. Her and Marco Perego’s film, Dovecote, made history as the first Italian film to win the Best Film Gold! It also took home Best Director and Best Leading Actress among other honors — with Perego and Saldana becoming the first-ever married duo to win two Gold Medals in the same year. Zoe Saldaña
Paris 70 (Spain) – Dani Feixas Roca
An audience favorite, Paris 70 claimed the People’s Choice Gold and Best Film Silver — each decided by a razor-thin margin of just two votes! It also earned Best Promising Director and Best Leading Actor for Alain Hernández.
Nun or Never! (Finland) – Heta Jaalinoja
This witty and visually stunning animation took home the Best Film Bronze and the Best Animation Gold, once again proving that the Film Olympiad celebrates all forms of filmmaking.
Amina (Italy) – Serena Tondo
The breakout surprise of the festival, Amina nearly claimed the People’s Choice Gold, falling short by just two votes out of 200 after making it to the final screening day.
Blue Sunday (Greece) – Gogo Marangouli
Third in the People’s Choice voting and winner of Best Greek Film Gold, Blue Sunday brought its cast to meet the audience in a lively discussion. Elli Tringou also earned the Best Leading Actress Bronze for her performance.
